Stallings' Rock Store Bar-B-Q, An Historic Landmark
In the 1930's you had to travel for miles to arrive at the nearest 'filling station' if you passed the one in Stallings, which is now just outside Charlotte's city limits. That was long before the southern part of Charlotte became such an 'attraction' for many families, formerly of Charlotte as well as those new to the community, looking for the big city activities but, a close-knit community with a small-town personality.
'The Rock Store' in Stallings, later became a convenience store where the locals met for ice cream and friendly conversation.
That is where the current owners, Bubba Chavis & Jay Mondock, both of whom are native to Stallings, became familiar with the building. Former educators, these men decided to keep the historic building alive and open up a Bar-B-Q store as part-time jobs. Bubba & Jay soon became busy with catering at the Rock Store BBQ and soon opened their doors to serve the public and made this their full time jobs! The two are now planning to open two more Bar-B-Q stores in nearby towns and I'm sure will be the talk of the town when they do!

As a southern gal, I can tell you that The Rock Store in Stallings has some of the best BBQ I've ever eaten! You can add either the Western Sauce (made with ketchup) or the Eastern Sauce (vinegar based, without ketchup) and a multitude of homemade sides including their mouthwatering baked beans, mac & cheese, white and red coleslaw, brunswick stew or their delicious corn bread. Top your dinner off with grandma's banana pudding that just brings back childhood memories.
Stop in Stallings Rock Store Bar-B-Que and taste for yourself; try the $5.50 sandwich combo--what a DEAL!
And don't forget to stop by the produce stand on your way out! Take home a variety of fresh produce that is locally grown.
(THE best Charlotte home search available - no kidding!)

Debe, what a great post. Love the Rock Store, and love the sound of the great sandwich. When I'm in the area, I'll stop by....but first, I want to meet you. ;-) Maybe we could do lunch? ;-)
looks so cute, like one of those old gas stations....and the food sounds great!
I love unique spots ! And the Rock Store is definitely unique - and if it serves up tasty BBQ then it's doubly good !

Hi Debe, I stopped by to say hello -- now I'm craving Bar-B-Q !! Terrific post about the Rock Store BBQ!
Hi Debe! This is the cutest place, which literally ROCKS! I wonder if it was inspired by the houses of the Three Little Pigs...it has a delightful, fairytale feeling...and sounds like it has the best BBQ too! Wonderful pics & pig & post!
I remember Stallings briefly from long ago but, I will admit I never had the pleasure of stopping there though but now after reading your post if I am in the area I will.
Thanks so much for the Great Spot to visit and get some great BBQ...we have a second home on Lake Norman and look forward to visiting...have a Great Day!
Debe That building certainly is a historic landmark I suspect no one would ever get approval to change its' appearance Karen
I can smell that pig roasting right through my monitor! Learned to LOVE the vineger based sauce while living in NC for 6 years. Haven't had it since, which means it's been 22 years!
Debe, I love the old building...and their slogan is wonderful! What a great place, one day when I get to Charlotte I will go there, it looks like so much fun!
I will look this up next time we come to Moms. This sounds so yummy and the pictures are unique. Great Local post!
Interesting look but more importantly a reputation for good BBQ...I sure hope I can make it to NC soon!
