When you have gratitude in your heart

At a very young age, my father has taught me about "having a grateful heart". He believed that if one doesn't have gratitude, one will value this one life we've been given very differently.

So, putting it into a real estate and small business ownership perspective, are you grateful for:

(1) The "low-ball" offer you received and the opportunity to negotiate it to a "fair offer"?

(2) The telemarketing phone calls you receive as a result of your very own SEO hardwork?

(3) The "on-the-fence" buyers who cannot seem to make up their minds?

(4) The opportunity to open doors, to evaluate different homes after homes your buyers want to view?

(5) The opportunity to educate your seller clients about managing the showings at the property?

Well, I could go on and on but I think you got the picture.

I only know that I must have a grateful heart for the Lord gives me the opportunity to rise up in the morning, to serve Him another day with all I have. We should cultivate a grateful heart not only in November (for Thanksgiving) but at everyday. Sure, we can look at the world being unfair, how others are not right and yet they seem to be doing well. But you are not them. And they are not you.

You can only control what you can control. Let the unfairness and worrying be the Lord's problem.

Remember that there's always two sides of how you look at things. Do you apply gratitude frequent and often? If you begin now, over time, I promise that you will have a changed perspective on life. November is the perfect time to do just that.

Reflect on all the goodness you have been given. Much more will be given to you if you just change the way you look at things.

I begin my week here on Active Rain with my God First posts, written every Sunday once a week. My promise to you is that the messages I share will be day-to-day related, often times related to real estate. If these topics are important to you also, I'd love for you to subscribe to my blog.

When you have gratitude in your heart

Some of God's Greatest Gifts are the Unanswered Prayers

I just finished watching a great Lifetime movie called Unanswered Prayers. The storyline was typical but the ending was powerful. I can't help but to walk away and agree that Some of God's greatest gifts are the Unanswered Prayers. How great are thee!

In this movie, a story about marriage, family and second love chances - the man, Ben Beck played by good-looking Eric Close had his high-school sweetheart standing in front of him, 20 years later. She left him, left the town and he prayed for her to come back. She didn't and life for him eventually went on. He's happily married, with a teenage son. The story goes where they became too close and his wife found out. As every good lifetime movie, it always end on a positive note. The wife forgives him. Moving on was the best thing in his life and he didn't know until she showed up again.

So, he said, Some of God's greatest gifts are the Unanswered Prayers.

How true that is!!!

In our lifetime, our wishes and desires can get self-centered and sometimes they really don't fit the big picture. If only we would dare to let go, and let God. If we only knew how He protects us with unanswered prayers.

So,will you begin to let go and let GOD? Some great thoughts to ponder on this Sunday just for Him. Look back at your life, aren't you glad sometimes God didn't answer the prayers we asked for?

I begin my week here on Active Rain with my God First posts, written every Sunday once a week. My promise to you is that the messages I share will be day-to-day related, often times related to real estate. If these topics are important to you also, I'd love for you to subscribe to my blog.

Releasing Forgiveness into the rain...

I titled this post, my Sunday God First post unintentionally to Releasing Forgiveness into the rain - then realized it's almost be perfect for a place such as this (Active Rain).

Forgiveness is a seed that if you let it grow hurts you more than it hurts the person.

Today, what I really want to discuss is not the human-side of forgiveness. It's on a "higher" level - against principalities and powers. It's taken me a while to learn that at times, when someone does you wrong, that it isn't against flesh and blood. It's against powers of this dark work and often times, against the evil in the spiritual levels.  If I didn't start thinking that way, things cannot get better.

When I put that in that context, I find it easier to release forgiveness. Sometimes, some "trolls" as I call them hurt people even without noticing it because they are simply wired that way. Then, there are some people who are sensitive, who cares, who feels it more than those that didn't.

In the end, if you're losing sleep, questioning yourself and thinking about this 24 x 7 but it didn't affect the other person one bit, and you are all tore up, it's just not going to be a good journey. Not forgetting those who loves you and care about you are also affected because you got all wind up in things that is not for you to struggle.

There are just so many people that could possibly hurt your feelings; from clients to family, to people who doesn't know you.

This Sunday, bring peace back into your life. Listen to this very peaceful piano piece and release forgiveness into the rain.

Scripture of the Week:

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Colossians 3:13

Releasing Forgiveness into the rain...

Home Sweet Home

There's nothing like Home Sweet Home. After a 10-day vacation, I was looking forward towards coming home. As I walked into the house, I realized my home is never perfect, never tidy or clean but I love it far better than the nicest and fanciest hotels I could ever sleep in.

When a home is temporary, it never feels like yours.

Relating this back to my Sunday God First post, that's exactly fitting to my topic today.

Our place here on earth is only temporary. We don't belong here and as Christ-followers, the ways of the world are certainly not our ways. We've been called for higher and better.

In the secular world, I've heard a definition of INTEGRITY - It's about what you do when no one is looking.

As business owners and entrepreneurs, we are constantly bombarded with opportunities to choose: the higher or the easier way. If you remember that this place is just your temporary home, no matter how much wealth you could accumulate in this world, you can't take it to your permanent home.

Instead Jesus said, For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also.

Spend time to accumulate those things that you can take it with you in your treasure chest when the Lord calls you home.

In the mean, the Lord didn't call for you not to enjoy your temporary home. Make it however you like but remember that this is only your temporary home.

Scripture of the week:

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
            declares the LORD.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9

Home Sweet Home

Grace is the MOST beautiful word in the dictionary

If I ever had a chance to have a baby girl, her name would be GRACE. I think it's the most beautiful word in the English dictionary.

In a Christ-centered world, Grace is defined as a gift, given to those who believe and only made possibly by Christ. It's not something you or I did. On our best-est days, GRACE is just poured out and on simply because He first loved us. There's nothing you can do to earn your GRACE and your salvation.

My home church, Hope Fellowship sang Amazing Grace (My chains are gone), written by Chris Tomlin this weekend. In this beautiful version of an old hymn, the words reminded me of how far I've come as a Christ follower (just a few short years back).

How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

When GRACE poured on, like a flood as the song said, my chains I was cuffed with fell off. No, it didn't come off instantly. In fact, it was truly a work in progress as I slowly work my ways. I've just been set in my ways for so long, not knowing any better, I found lots of security in the wrong places:

When I was growing up, I was always an over-achiever. I really believed everything I did was because of my hardwork. I believed everything I planned turned to fruition because I worked at it. Didn't really understand the concept of Blessings until I became a believer. So now, to everything I give Him the glory. It's funny to think I had anything to do with it. I'm just here merely to be His vessel, to do whatever He calls me to do for the moment.

There's a new sense of FREEDOM, a relief as you can imagine. My works are no longer put on my shoulders and for someone who takes personal accountability and ownership so seriously, this is truly in His grace that I will ever enjoy that the beauty didn't lie between my hands or my shoulders. It's all Him.

I pray that you will soak in His grace just for a moment this week. Know that everything is in His hands. The author of your life knows what's best and wouldn't want anything disasterous for you. It's hard at times but when you know where to put your trust, you will never fail.

Scripture of the Week:

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so no one can boast.

Ephisians 2:8-9

The Art of Servanthood

Zig Ziglar's quote, You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want. It's tried and true especially in the service industry such as ours: real estate.

It's always refreshing to hear a new client come up to you at the end of your first meeting to tell you, "I've worked with many realtors(R) before but I've never met one with doesn't have a pushy attitude. That's what I most appreciate about meeting you".

With that, it made the 4 1/2 hours under the hot Frisco TX 102 degree weather sun all that more worth it.

I hope the scripture of this week rings true in your professional life too:

Scripture of the Week:

Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

1 Corinthians 9:19, 23

My love language is Acts of Service. There is no greater joy than to know I have served with everything that I had without expecting anything in return.

Make it a great week for the Lord! And soak in His richness today.

It Doesn't Matter Where You're At...

Good morning Active Rain. I hope you had a productive week this past week serving your heart out.

Writing these Sunday God First posts have truly been so good to the growth of my FAITH as I continue to pray and discern throughout the entire week to hear God's word to see what He may want to say every Sunday. It has truly stretched my FAITH beyond my imagination along as trying to "listen" to His voice: sometimes small, sometimes LOUD.

This week, as my son's Spring swimming lessons come to an end, his instructor ask the children, "Where are you going to go for vacation?".... One kid answered "FLORIDA". My nephew who normally is in class is already in PHOENIX. And when it was my son's turn to answer, he said, "HOME DEPOT".....

It was so hillarious.

Yup, our vacation spot was HOME DEPOT - a poor man's vacation spot. It was the 1st Saturday. So, we always brings him to the Kid's FREE workshop projects at Home DEPOT. He's come to look forward to it every month.

The moral of the story - It doesnt matter where we "go", so as long as we are together.

Even in my 3.5 years experience as a mother, I felt the time have come and gone so quickly.

I have successes in the business. At times, working with unreasonable people who completely wasted my time. It's made me mad. I looked up and my son's already going on 4. Karen Otto always tells me to treasure the times, before I know it, my little baby will be headed to college like hers pretty soon.

I'm impatient. I see alot of people have alot of success. People here on Active Rain. I'm trying to compare what I've done as a 4.5 years part-time agent and 4 years as a full-time agent to those before me, who have 15-20 years of business experience. I can't wait to have the business they have.

I do need to take a step back, evaluate my priorities (time with God, time with my family, time in the business). A successful business may take a while to build. But my son will grow up before my eyes really soon.

So, I thought his answer is so real. It doesn't matter where we're at just as long as we're together. Business success? Who's to say I don't have it now? And even if I didn't have it, it will come to me in due time. But not with my family paying the price.

Have another productive week ahead!

Scripture of the Week:

Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Matthew 6:19-21

How Oprah Winfrey's last episode spoke so deeply to me

Oprah Winfrey's last episode of her Oprah Winfrey Show spoke so deeply to me as I watched it on DVR recently. So many things Oprah said rings true in my life and my commitment as a fellow human-being.

Watch this Inspirational Video:

TOOK THE VIDEO DOWN SINCE I RECEIVED
AN EMAIL ABOUT COPYRIGHT INFRIGEMENT.
It was just too good not to share,
and never intended to steal anyone's thunder.
Oh well. Nevertheless, the message for those who saw it was still good.

So many things Oprah mentioned in her video are true in my life as I believe this season of my life, I'm answering my calling to be a Frisco TX realtor(R). Back in October 2006 somewhere in the villages of Kenya, God told me this one simple statement, Your mission field is in Frisco TX. And there I was, since that very day, I took on my daily cross to serve people in and around  Frisco TX.

My platform is REAL ESTATE. But my higher calling is more than just a Realtor(R).

My role is just to love one another. Real estate is just how people connect to me. Just as God has pointed out to me in 1 Corinthians 3:6, I planted, Apollos watered  but God will make it grow.

It was through my life purpose that I found FAITH. Back in 2004, when I was at the lowest point of my life, I picked up a book, The Purpose-Driven Life by Rick Warren. That book brought a new awareness to me. Since then, my life had a much more meaningful purpose beyond just me and myself.

Today, I'm a better Realtor(R) for my clients because of my beliefs and my life's purpose.

Until He calls me somewhere else, I'm to bloom where I'm planted.

Additional Reading: Someone's life depends on you answering your calling.

How Oprah Winfrey's last episode spoke so deeply to me

This Time I Have GOD - Ted Williams

Ted Williams became an overnight celebrity due to Youtube's viral abilities to turn rags to riches. I'm sure you've heard about Ted Williams by now - the homeless man, panhandling at a street corner in Columbus OH with a golden voice.

Sometime in 1993, Ted's life spiraled downwards when he lost his home due to drugs and alcohol problems. To fund his habits, he turned to robbery, theft and fraud. Not until just a few days ago, Ted was still living in a tent, asking for money at a random street corner.

Since then, he's been offered several lucrative positions because of his God-given voice.

Talk about God's grace of second chances. Ted Williams sure has it.

What caught my attention was his acknowledgment that God is in his life now while He wasn't there before. When asked about redemption and what he would do differently with his second chances, he wants to acknowledge his gratefulness to the Lord for never giving up.

Time will tell if Ted Williams will use his second chance wisely. I pray that he will.

While my life never hit bottom the way Ted's did, I know exactly what he means when he said, This time, I have God in my life. I became a real believer just fairly recently. This time, I did it for myself and I did it because I want to. Having Him in my life has certainly changed every aspect of it. I'm a better wife today because of Him, a better mother, a better daughter, a better friend and even a better Realtor(R) all because now, I have a guiding Lord in my life.

The National Association of Realtors(R) love to talk about its Ethics and Legal Codes of Conduct. (I do not imply non-Christian realtors(R) are unethical). The Word of God speaks louder than any Codes of Conduct any man can ever write for himself.

Hence, Ted William's statement - This Time I Have GOD. It resonates with me on this Sunday God First post.

Scripture of the Week:

In all ways, acknowledge Him. He will direct your path.

Proverbs 3:6

Believe You Can Get There

Today, 1/2/2011 marks the first Sunday of a brand New Year..... Full of new hope and excitement. A brand New Year always represent a fresh start no matter how 2010 was to you.

If it wasn't great, the first Sunday in 2011 can represent a brand new encouragement for you.

If it was awesome, the first Sunday of 2011 is to expect more (bigger and better) in the following year.

This Sunday God First post is to encourage you, no matter how 2011 may be, remember to know where you place your HOPE - in the Lord, that matters most because the Lord's HOPE never fails.

Sunday God First post by Loreena Yeo, Realtor(R) in Frisco TXFace each day as a race in 2011. Know that some days we win, some days we may lose. If you don't acknowledge your losses and learn from it, it makes tomorrow's battle that much harder.

Scripture for the Week:

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
A time to be born and a time to die,
A time to plant and a time to uproot,
A time to kill and a time to heal
A time to tear down and a time to build,
A time to weep and a time to laugh,
A time to mourn and a time to dance,
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them
A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing
A time to search and a time to give up,
A time to keep and a time to throw away,
A time to tear and a time to mend
A time to be silent and a time to speak
A time to love and a time to hate
A time for war and a time for peace.

He has made everything beautiful in its time.

Ecclesiastes 3

Today will be a day I will be cleaning up business plans, reviewing my plans for the week/ year as the Holidays is completely behind me. I hope you'll join me for a time such as this.... the first Sunday of a Brand New Year.

Happy New & Prosperous Year in 2011. I'll see you at the top.Believe you can get there.

I begin my week here on Active Rain with my God First posts, written every Sunday once a week. My promise to you is that the messages I share will be day-to-day related, often times related to real estate. If these topics are important to you also, I'd love for you to subscribe to my blog.
