Stallings' Rock Store Bar-B-Q, An Historic Landmark
In the 1930's you had to travel for miles to arrive at the nearest 'filling station' if you passed the one in Stallings, which is now just outside Charlotte's city limits. That was long before the southern part of Charlotte became such an 'attraction' for many families, formerly of Charlotte as well as those new to the community, looking for the big city activities but, a close-knit community with a small-town personality.
'The Rock Store' in Stallings, later became a convenience store where the locals met for ice cream and friendly conversation.
That is where the current owners, Bubba Chavis & Jay Mondock, both of whom are native to Stallings, became familiar with the building. Former educators, these men decided to keep the historic building alive and open up a Bar-B-Q store as part-time jobs. Bubba & Jay soon became busy with catering at the Rock Store BBQ and soon opened their doors to serve the public and made this their full time jobs! The two are now planning to open two more Bar-B-Q stores in nearby towns and I'm sure will be the talk of the town when they do!

As a southern gal, I can tell you that The Rock Store in Stallings has some of the best BBQ I've ever eaten! You can add either the Western Sauce (made with ketchup) or the Eastern Sauce (vinegar based, without ketchup) and a multitude of homemade sides including their mouthwatering baked beans, mac & cheese, white and red coleslaw, brunswick stew or their delicious corn bread. Top your dinner off with grandma's banana pudding that just brings back childhood memories.
Stop in Stallings Rock Store Bar-B-Que and taste for yourself; try the $5.50 sandwich combo--what a DEAL!
And don't forget to stop by the produce stand on your way out! Take home a variety of fresh produce that is locally grown.
