Lessons Learnt at the Most Unexpected Place

I am writing from my hotel room in Brentwood, TN. Tonight is my last night here and I have some time to put down on paper my thoughts about how my week went. Wow, what an impactful week!

I am here in Brentwood TN, 20 minutes south of Nashville. It is also my first trip to Tennessee. I am here to go through the Dave Ramsey Certified Counselor Training and I signed up to become a Ministry Counselor for my church, friends and family. The lessons that I learnt all week will definitely impact the way I continue to counsel and advise my real estate clients and I do believe that I will be a better Realtor when I get home because of the lessons I learnt.

I just want to leave a few thoughts:

  • I am super-impressed with the team that served us this week and the whole organization as well. The Dave Ramsey organization is a team of approximately 260 employees and growing.
There is only 1 word I would describe ALL of them:
    CONSISTENCY.
No matter whom you talked to, they share the same message, the same passion and the same belief. They ALL believe in the same CAUSE: helping people achieve financial peace.
In Corporate America these days, no company is ran this way. How often do we have to talk to 10 different people only to get 10 different answers???
I am super-impressed with everyone I come to know and I offer a salute to these people.
I still cannot fully understand how the message can resonate this strong.
  • The team that super-served us really treated us like people. The stories that you share with them along the way, they remember! Now, you don't get that these days. They came early to set up the place and they stayed late to clean the place. These employees changing out trash bags after we all left and that act in itself is servanthood that I personally witnessed every night.
  • Chris Hogan was one the lead coaches in our class. At the end of the long week, he made us stand up and looked him in the eye, made us promise him that we will go home to do something about the lessons we learnt - because of what we do, we help release people out of financial bondage and inject Hope in people's lives. We are now God's army to help bring financial literacy to others.
I almost cried because it was that good. I have never been to a workshop/ educational event that an instructor had left such a huge impact in my life.
Wherever I go, it's ALL about me, me, me and how I can grow my success.
Chris's message is different: He gave me a different outlook on how I am now better equipped to serve my clients because of the knowledge I have learnt. Now, that's true empowerment.
What an awesome and different message. After all, I know I signed up to be a Realtor in the Frisco TX area is not to feed my personal or business ego. It is truly to pick up the cross where God has laid out for me.
I'm not sure if Chris would ever know how much he touched my life and because of the subtle lessons he "taught" me gave me a better perspective of what I need to do in order to super-serve my clients. It's to look my clients in the eye and believe that them and I can work together hand-in-hand to achieve their great real estate success.
  • I need to tell myself that it's okay that I be uncomfortable so that I help people get in comfortable positions. I do know that I am called to serve short sale sellers in Frisco TX. Chris has subtly just gave me the motivation and the confidence that I can do it! It now becomes a new outlook on my business. It's not about me, but about how I can change the lives of people I super-serve everyday: be it through a ministry counseling or my real estate clients.

I wrote a post this week about How I felt it was difficult to say No to this first-time home buyer couple. After I heard enough from those who cared to comment and now after under-going this yet another turning point education, I will never again doubt about my counseling and guidance for my clients.

Sure I understand that my income relies on people who closes on houses but in the end, my God watches me every time I serve His people. I know whom is my provider and to whom I place my Hope.
