Another Lenten Season is upon us, and another ‘opportunity to change' presents itself...!!!
Each year we experience the forty days of Lent as a prelude to The Celebration of Easter, which for Christians world wide commemorates the suffering, death, and rising of Jesus, Our Savior...!!!
It is no accident that The Church has been celebrating in this fashion for centuries now...
No, The Church, realized early on, that in order to comprehend the magnificent Grace that Jesus wrought for us, we needed to spend time in reflection, quiet, and contemplation to fully appreciate these mysteries...somewhat like Jesus spent forty days in the desert before beginning His ‘public' ministry...!!!
We hear murmurings from some who decide each year to give up, to sacrifice, something they enjoy...it may be chocolate, or sweets, or alcoholic beverages, or our favorite foods, or TV watching, or video games, or, God Forbid, even TWEETING...
I'm not sure what the purpose of this ‘giving up' is, but perhaps it is a way to allow God to have more space in our lives by stripping away some worldly, material enjoyment...in other words, creating a ‘GOD SIZED' hole, within us, from which God may 
speak to us...
I ran out of things to ‘give up' years ago, and so I switched my MO for Lent to trying to improve in a particular area of my life with which I had become dissatisfied...
As yet, I'm not sure how effective this practice turns out, but it does afford me an opportunity to reflect and be still for moments at a time...
And Jesus certainly knows where my heart is...
So I will continue to celebrate Lent and The Easter Mysteries with all the traditional prayer, rites, foods, and quiet time that Lent offers...hoping full well that by Easter I will have become the better Christian that Jesus came to redeem and instruct...
Oh, and by the way, this year Easter falls on my wedding anniversary...!!!
