In that favorite Julie Andrews classic, I can close my eyes and visualize the opening scene...
Maria (Julie) rushing up an Alpine country hill abloom with wild flowers, presumably springtime, the warm sunshine serving to illuminate bountiful displays at every angle, as the words of the song 'The Sound Of Music' get louder and louder and you can almost hear nature's muted language echoing her refrain as the camera held aloft by some mechanical 'eagle' presents interesting views appropriate to cinematography at its best...
Anyway, you get the point...!
Reflecting back, however, what does she mean by those words, 'The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of 
Music'...Can we still hear 'words' or 'lyrics' today if we were to go out and run up a similar hill...? And exactly what is it that we would be hearing...??
Now place yourself smack dab in the middle of the business that you're in...real estate sales, lending, property management, appraising, staging, title insurance, blogging, or whatever...
Now listen closely and intently...
What is it that you're hearing...?
Does it sound like MUSIC? Does it sound ALIVE? Can you HEAR anything at all?
That is the challenge we all face today...
In the midst of so many distractions, not the least of which is the lousy negativity of the news, it is almost impossible to hear or discern anything that sounds pleasantly melodious...
Is it the distractions, or is it our own lack of focus that dumbs our hearing...?
Remember in the movie, which takes place in Austria, just as World War II was heating up...there were plenty of distractions, and plenty of 'bad news'...yet still, Miss Andrews could still 'HEAR' the sound of music, and for her, at least, the hills came alive...!!!
I'm reminded of a home which in my real estate sales days had little if any redeeming qualities...what sold it?...the beauty of the sunset you could see from the rear of the home...!!!
Let us daily take up the challenge to find MUSIC in our work, and maybe the SPRING in our step will make things COME ALIVE for us...!!!
