Fran's Friday Forum...The Holiest Of Weeks...!!!

Catholics throughout the world will be celebrating Holy Week by participating in the EASTER TRIDUUM...The celebration of The Institution of The Holy Eucharist and The Priesthood on Holy Thursday, the commemoration of the death of the Lord on Good Friday, and The Easter celebration of the Resurrection of Our Lord on Easter Sunday...  

Of course, in keeping with the ancient Jewish tradition, the faithful will begin to celebrate Easter at sundown on Holy Saturday at The Easter Vigil Mass...!!!  

Jews are currently celebrating Passover, so there are many sacred events in which to participate this holiest of weeks...  

For years now, I have used Good Friday to contemplate the Lord's sacrifice on Calvary...I bake many loaves of 'Easter Bread', an old Italian tradition that anticipates The Resurrection even on Good Friday...remember, Jesus died only once for the sins of all mankind...we share in the mystery of those events by our liturgical remembrances...  

The three holy days are full of symbolism and tradition, ethnic, liturgical, and dietary...!!!  

The bread that I bake on Good Friday allows me to meditate on the 'waiting' aspect of the First Apostles...Although they did not fully comprehend what 'to rise from the dead' meant, in obedience and patience, they would come to appreciate the mystery of the events of those days by sharing their testimonies, praying alone and together, and gathering in their respective homes as the CHURCH was being formed...  

So today, 2000 years later, we are beneficiaries of those events, those mysteries, and those traditions and treasures...!!!
