Let me give you the smash mouth answer to that age old quandary right out of the gate.......NEITHER...
That's right...'The American Dream', about which I have written dozens of posts, and upon which I have devoted much of my career efforts, is neither a RIGHT nor a PRIVILEGE...IT IS A GOAL...
The problem in our American society today is that the term 'GOAL' connotes work and effort, a concept that escapes many politicians in Washington...
But sit down and ponder the concept a minute and you will see that, like many dreams, The American Dream is merely a goal...it relies on a plan and strategy whereby a typical American family may own its own home and...KEEP IT...!!!
And that's where the fly in the ointment appears...
Our society no longer fosters 'PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY' or 'DISCIPLINED FINANCIAL SELF CONTROL'...
Any realist knows, implicitly, that the allurement of 'HOLLYWOOD', 'TV', 'MAGAZINE', and other advertising medium that encourages us to 'buy' its products, EVEN IF WE CAN'T AFFORD IT...is unrealistic as a budgetary principle...
That's the problem right now with our economy, our legislators, and executive politicians...THEY ARE NOT REALISTS...
Again, I would like nothing more than to see a Country where everyone is afforded a shot at THE AMERICAN DREAM, but, as a realist, I know unequivocally that some will never have this goal, let alone attain it...They may wait around foolishly and naively, hoping and believing that someday they will hit the lottery or Congress will pass a bill entitling everyone to a free home...devoid of having to work or earn it...
To those I say...KEEP DREAMING...!!!
