Dear President Bush,
It has been almost a month now since you have been out of office. I hope you have had time to relax, reflect, and unwind from the eight years of stress and strain being the President of the United States entailed...!
I have also had time to reflect on those eight years!
First and foremost, I would like to thank you and your family for the years you have dedicated to the public service of our Country. Serving others is a selfless and unselfish vocation. It emulates the whole Gospel message that Jesus came to show us...! And I think you have served admirably...
I judge you not by the constant maligning you took from your political enemies...many times crossing the line of decorum and politeness...it seems that some never wanted to be united from the get go...Your goal of being a UNITER not a DIVIDER was simply too lofty to bear for many in Washington and around the country. Nevertheless, I saw in virtually your every move, compassion, caring, concern, faith, hope, charity, principle, endurance, fortitude, perseverance, yes...and even wisdom...contrary to the way your adversaries portray you. Oh, and by the way, I also appreciated your sense of humor at times, and the way you treated the public around you...!
I judge you also, not by the state of our economy, nor the success of your efforts at peace in the middle east...I know in both instances you did your best!
Again, I would like to thank you for your service, for your defense of human life from conception to natural death, for your keeping us safe from further attack after 911, for your example of Christian Family Life...
In that regard I extend my thanks to your lovely wife, Laura, and the dignity and charm she brought to our Country as First Lady...
I don't know what history will record in regard to your legacy...I know history isn't always faithful or fair to many. Regardless, please know that my family and many others I know appreciate all your efforts throughout your entire two terms as our president.
I wish you and your family much health, happiness, and satisfaction in the future as you attempt to return to a life of normalcy...!
Please know that you and your family will continue to be in our prayers and thoughts in the days and years ahead...!
