It's Been Exactly A Year But It Never Did Get Any Easier

Saying goodbyeToday is April 21. It's been exactly a year but it hadn't been any easier.

I'm still mouring over the loss of my beloved baby. Maxwell Valentine the Basset. The best dog in the world.

Maxx was taken away from me by osteosarcama (bone cancer). He was diagnosed at the end of February 2008 and the vet said he wouldn't last 2 weeks. Maxx fought for 2 months.

The events of the day are slowly coming back to me very vividly. We had to take him to the vet to put him down because Maxx hasn't ate in 10 days. His eyes started to turn yellow and his nose started to dry up from dehydration. At 3pm, I just hugged him for 1.5 hours in the kitchen floor.

Saying Goodbye is never easy for me. Especially to my best friend since college. Maxx was my 1st Valentine's Day present from my husband, then boyfriend. The first night, Maxx slept on my head and since then, he's been sleeping with me, sharing my pillow every night. He kept me warm in the winter nights and kept me company when my husband was out-of-town.

It's still so different without Maxx, even though it had been 1 year since his passing. I miss him laying on the kitchen floor awaiting my homecoming.

My dad was right when he said, If I wanted a real friend, I should get a dog.

Here are some of my memories of my best friend. Please let me grieve today.
