Do What You Love and Never Have To Work Another Day

I love reading about What Others Are Passionate About here in the 'Rain. If you had missed Deb Brook's Dear Diary, My Passion Is.... contest results, you should dedicate some time to reading ALL 76 posts. They are BEAUTIFUL as like their writers.

These posts inspired me to write this blog: If money were unlimited and you were in the perfect swing of things, what would you be doing now? Would you honestly be selling real estate?

I really had to sit down to quietly ponder on this one for a minute. Maybe even two. Would I really be selling real estate? What about this job that I enjoy? What about this career that could almost consume my every waking minute? Am I just a workaholic or do I truly enjoy real estate?

In all honesty, I'm not sure if I really like REAL ESTATE. Oh my God, I said it!!!!!

What I do know is that I have a MIGHTY heart to serve. Jennifer Allan once asked me, What do I mean by "Real estate is just my platform?"... This season of my life, I am called to serve people through Real estate. I'm not sure what my future lies, but if I could have it my way, I'd love to sell real estate well into my old age - until my clients could no longer hear me because I have no more teeth.

I feel empowered to share this personal view with you: Ask yourself if you are doing what you love and doing what you are meant to do. If it is not, you know.... that's okay too. Should you get out? Maybe.... but maybe not until you have made some income to leap to something you truly enjoy. It's no question that if you do this right, real estate can be very lucrative.

Be focused. Don't nimble some here and dabble some over there. If it is truly something worth devoting your time and energy to, then build it. Don't spread yourself too thin. In this age where we don't just live for ourselves and have family to take care of, time is precious.

Some of you may know that I started in the business part-time. It's no decision I regret over, but I had wished I took an earlier out. I STOLE company time and attention during the day and my Frisco Texas Real Estate clients didn't get the best of me. I just wasn't the best Frisco Realtor(R) out there for them. But once I realized no one had the best of me, I decided to pull the plug. So, this is where I'm at today - becoming the best Frisco REALTOR(R) I know how - for my fellow Frisco Realtors(R) and my clients.

I love what Real Estate has to offer for me. The challenges, the servanthood attitude, the quest for success. But most of all, I do believe with ALL of my heart that I have their best interest at heart. If I could help my real estate clients achieve their housing goals: be it a school priority, a community priority, a price priority, etc., there is no greater accomplishment. That's what I define as MY success. If it meant moving on to another city that I don't know so well, I would cheer them on. I realize this in my business: That I don't need ALL the 2,400 transactions in the Frisco Texas area. I just need a fraction. I know my needs are taken care of so I can only do my best to help take care of others.

It's very difficult for me to say Good Night to work but I am aware of a bigger promise I made to my husband. No matter how much I give to my clients everyday, I give him and to my son even more. They deserve a few hours of my day too.

As I spoke to my friend this morning, she felt she was a little too late to "switch" careers. I reminded her that Colonel Sanders didn't start KFC until he was 67. Michelangelo didn't finished The Last Judgment painting at the Sistine Chapel until he was 66. Age is just a number. Live each day to the fullest. Treat each day as a GIFT. We could really decide what we want to do.

We could go against our fears to pick up the phone to see if we could be of assistance to our clients and our prospects. Or
We could let our fears and personal agendas paralyze us from becoming the best.

So, if real estate is not what you see yourself doing 5 years from now, use the time left to make all you can. Jump when the time is right and never look back. Do what you love and never work another day.
