At the annual Title Agent's Seminar hosted by Old Republic Title, a record number of attendees, over 160, 
were present...!!!
Compared to previous seminars this one was presented on a modest budget, reflecting the current status of The Title Insurance Industry and the current national economy...NEVERTHELESS...
Old Republic Title and its capable Pennsylvania HQ staff never fail to bring together all the essentials necessary for a successful, engaging, sometimes entertaining, and always interesting event...AND SO...
This 2010 seminar was no different! Brought together were experts in the fields of mortgage, appraisal, banking, E&O, title insurance, and real estate brokerage...
For the most part, the seminar did not disappoint...
Questions regarding the new changes to the HUD1, the new GFE, and PA Agreement of Sale were discussed.
Often what is NOT discussed is indicative of what really ails the industry...
Questions such as: 'If everyone is opposed to CBA's why do they continue to exist'?, AND 'How can one participate in a CBA, admit it is undesirable and questionably ethical, yet justify monies received by participation in such affiliations'?, AND 'Why doesn't the Title Industry police itself instead of waiting for HUD and Departments of Insurance to enact regulations that in many cases contain no common sense, nor benefit the real estate consumer, nor improve the industry itself'?, were noticeably and 'unoffensively' left off the agenda...!!!
In 40 years of active participation in the real estate industry I have witnessed the AOS go from 2 pages to over 19, the Settlement Sheet go from one page to 4 or more, Mortgage Documents go from less than ten to well over 80 pages.
I guess the acronym KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid, escapes our industry...and our regulatory agencies...SO...
The most FAQ I have is: 'Will I see the HUD1 go to 10 pages'?...Surely consumers will better understand it then...!!!
