On Eagles Wings...I Forgive...IF...!!!

Anyone who follows football knows by now that the Philadelphia Eagles signed former Atlanta Falcon quarterback, Michael Vick to a two year contract...!!!

That news has brought Philadelphia and its fans and even non football residents to debate the rationale of doing such a thing...and debate it roundly and vehemently...!!!

Vick, a convicted felon, was imprisoned for his crimes, barred from playing football again in the NFL, and ruined personally as a result of his off the field antics...some of which were down right despicable and caused his conviction...!!!

Some trustworthy friends have gone to bat for him and recommended his reinstatement to the NFL and given another shot at playing football...to digress...

Saint Peter asked Jesus, "How many times must I forgive my brother, seven times?"...No, the Lord answered, "Not seven times, but seventy times seven times"...

Some Christians keep trying to shorten the Lord's arms...but the Lord's arms are widely open to anyone who seeks forgiveness...no matter what their crime...!!!

If you want the gory details of the debate, just pick up any Philly newspaper or tune in any Philly sports program on radio or TV...

The purpose of this post is to focus, not on the abhorrent sins of his past, but on one simple but important defect we have in our society...our culture...

Let me explain...

We say a person is innocent until proven guilty, but we 'convict' people in our hearts, in the media, and in our society long before they are found guilty by a jury of their peers...!!!

Furthermore, when they are found guilty and serve the sentence and/or pay the fines levied upon them, they're still in trouble...many, after their time incarcerated, can't get a job because of their record...ask any felon...they'll tell you how hard it is to find employment with a felony conviction...

The famous American...DOUBLE STANDARD...!!!

It's no wonder that there are so many repeat offenders...an idle mind is the devil's workshop...we need to keep these people busy in some worthwhile endeavor...

And yet, we Christians, claim that repentance and forgiveness are the keys to walking with The Lord...

I don't condone what Michael Vick did in his past, I'm not sure if his repentance is genuine, but as a Christian, if I'm willing to talk the talk, I must be willing to walk the walk...

And so, I support the Eagles, their owner Mr. Laurie, and their staff...

And I support Mr Vick...

Whether he's capable of playing up to his former ability only time will tell...it means little to me...What does mean a lot to me, was that he was given a second chance...

Just like Jesus gives us...!!!

Yes, as Jesus also said, "The Kingdom is already in your midst"...

Mr. Vick, you too deserve another chance at resting in the palm of HIS hand...!!!
