Get Up From That Couch And Be Productive...!!!

That's the mantra that I spout to my kids very often. It bothers me to see anybody waste their time watching endless hours of TV or video gaming...!!!

Now, before you accuse me of being an old fuddy dud who doesn't know how to enjoy myself and have fun, let me assure you that my sense of humor ranks among the best of them...

I've never turned my back on a good joke or prank...it's just that I seem to get more enjoyment and fulfillment when I'm engaged in something PRODUCTIVE...something CONSTRUCTIVE...

And yes, I believe in 'DOWN TIME' and 'R&R' and 'LEISURE'...BUT...

In my opinion, we WASTE too much time lounging and 'COUCH POTATOING'...

It's that age old dilemma of 'HOW TO JUGGLE PRIORITIES' rearing its ugly head...

The Church for 2000 years now has preached MODERATION in all things (except those things that are harmful either spiritually or physically or materially)

Let's take a page out of that book and at least make an attempt to adopt a philosophy of MODERATION...

We may have to 'WORK HARD AT' making WORK ENJOYABLE...but it will be worth it...!!!

I'm betting that our lives will become more fulfilling, our families will become more productive, our businesses will become more successful, and the lives of those around us will see a MODEL OF LIVING that is worth emulating...

And, bottom line, isn't that what Life is all about...???

January...And Much To Think About...!!!

Usually, post-holiday January is seed ground for some depression setting in, but this year there is so much going on there is no time to get depressed...

What with the Haiti disaster, the Massachusetts elections, the health care debacle, trying to get organized for the new year, fighting a nasty sinus infection, a broken tooth filling...

Well...you get the picture, I'm sure...

In the midst of all this busyness, I just felt the need to blog...AND SO...

I start each day 'putting on the armor of God'...asking God's blessings on all those around me, His protection on those 'spreading the Good News', and interceding for all those with special needs (PRACTICALLY EVERYONE)...

Setting priorities is still of paramount importance...it's the only way we can keep some semblance of order and peace in our lives...

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it...!!! If you want some idea of order try: God, Spouse, Family, Community, Work...!!!

Lest you criticize me for putting WORK last...I'll take any employee who has these priorities in order and I will expect great things from that person...!!!

Anyhow, that's my suggestionstory...and I'm sticking to it...!!!

Have a great day...!!!

June...A Time For Juggling...???

From time to time I see my life as a juggling act...

Trying to BALANCE and PRIORITIZE events and situations and even my philosophy of life...

Remember, I have responsibilities as a FATHER and a HUSBAND and a BUSINESS OWNER and a PRACTICING CATHOLIC...among others...

When all is right and these responsibilities are all in harmony, all is right with the world and there is peace...!!!

That doesn't happen very frequently, but the challenge is to be at peace even when these priorities are encroaching on one another and the lines between them become blurred...!!! A common occurrence through life's journey...!!!

So how do I handle these situations...since I've never mastered the art of JUGGLING...???

Let me give you an analogy...!

As a PRACTICING CATHOLIC, I'm responsible to set and lead a good example...this comes under the heading of EVANGELIZATION...SPREADING THE GOOD NEWS...but there are many things within my CHURCH (the universal one, not the local one to which I belong) which bother me...case in point...I see many liberal, left leaning factions operating as 'Catholic' which, to me, seem to present a confusing example, a somewhat marginal life of christian values, and a poor source of evangelization at best, even downright apostasy at times...

I have a responsibility to correct my brethren when I see such anti Christian activity, yet, as a Catholic I know and accept that the Bishops are the appointed and official teachers of doctrine and proper behavior, and so, in a spirit of brotherhood, fraternity, and charity (LOVE), I defer to that authority...

After all, one of the FOUR MARKS of the Church is UNITY...remember from our catechism the four marks of the Church are ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC or UNIVERSAL, and APOSTOLIC...and so I always defer to FAITH...and it has never let me down...

Oh, don't misunderstand, there are plenty of 'Catholics' who have let me down, and there will be many in the future who will disappoint me and the Church to which they claim to belong...

But that's God's problem, not mine...He promised He would remain with the Church until the end of time...That's where we get our ONENESS, not from the members...

It's HIS CHURCH...He is the head...I am merely a member...a proud one, but nevertheless a weak one, YET STILL PRACTICING TO GET IT RIGHT...!!!

And that's how I handle the JUGGLING...I trust in God, my hope...!!!
