Was The FIDDLER On The Roof Right About 'TRADITION'...???
In the 2008 Presidential elections the word ‘CHANGE' characterized the climate of the day...That was then, this is NOW...
In the play & movie, Fiddler On The Roof, we hear the main character explaining the reason for the behavior that he expected of his children...in a word that explanation was...TRADITION...
In other words, we are to behave as our parents and grandparents taught us...not by every whim of the day that floats through the air of popular opinion...
We can see that now, just 3 years removed from that election and its HOLLOW PROMISES...
People, in general, are not comfortable with CHANGE...most people prefer the STATUS QUO...Maybe that is as it should be...Maybe those masses of humanity that find comfort in the STATUS QUO have it right and those ‘PROGRESSIVES' always seeking to change things are the misguided ones...
Evidence is mounting to justify that assertion...
In a recent study about vocations in the Catholic Church...The following was revealed:
"the rather obvious fact that religious communities that preserve traditional elements such as the habit, common prayer, communal life, focused apostolates and strong affirmation of Church teaching, are doing well in comparison to orders that do not."
Now, granted, that was from a relatively small segment of a somewhat narrowly focused group within the Church, but nevertheless, much can be learned by such studies...
TRADITIONS are often based on proven trial and error...time tested...
CHANGE...many times is inspired by frustration, spontaneous feelings, capricious desires, and insecurity...
Can it be that all this commotion we're witnessing worldwide is rooted in these types of emotions rather than in sound logic, reasoning, and time tested TRADITION...???
In my humble opinion, CHANGE must always be guided by TRADITION, and not by misguided and quasi paranoic sentiment rooted in FEAR...!!!
Have a great weekend...!!!
