Although I’m a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania, and of Italian/American decent, and an ardent football fan, I’ve never considered myself a diehard fan of PENN STATE or Coach Joe Paterno...
I never had anything bad to say about Coach Paterno or Penn State, but I wasn’t one of those who constantly called for him to resign because of his age or because of their dislike for him or his powerful coaching empire...
Let’s face it, when you’ve been involved with coaching the same team since the 1950’s, and you have more wins under your belt than any other college coach, and you have fervent dedication to the same institution for an entire career.......that’s an empire...!!!
My purpose for writing this post is to focus on the ‘rush to judgement’ that is occurring as we speak on many many fronts...
The one common element on all these fronts, as I see it, is the incessant necessity for many to play ‘THE BLAME GAME’...
If you’ve read only a few of my past posts, you’d know how adamant I am against playing ‘THE BLAME GAME’....
Oh yes, I believe in an unending search for TRUTH as many of my past posts will testify...
BUT...’THE BLAME GAME’...more often than not, results in a lot of non productive and counter productive effort, and in the end...usually resolves nothing...
My philosophy has always been to search tirelessly for the TRUTH, identify all aspects of the problem, weigh all possible solutions and alternatives, PRAY LIKE CRAZY for WISDOM...then ACT...!!!
Sometimes that formula needs time to refine itself...kinda like fine wine which needs to age or mellow a bit before it becomes as fine and tasty as it can be...!!!
And so with Coach Paterno, the victims of the Penn State fiasco, the Institution itself, the current students, their families, the alumni, the former and future attendees, the community at Happy Valley, and the many observers, reporters, and journalists involved in the unraveling of the entire situation...
What is needed now is calm, honesty, courage, wisdom, prudence, forgiveness, reparation, and justice...
And hopefully, all those virtues will be manifestly noticed and evidently displayed during this entire crisis...
May God bless and heal and bring good out of all these events...!!!
Have a great weekend...!!!
