Fran's Friday Forum...Gut Wrenching Loss...The Next Day...!!!

I Love Fran's Friday Forum...!!!If you think this post is about baseball, you're absolutely correct...!!!  

Last night, under the lights, my son Jared, a budding and enthusiastic athlete, was asked to pitch the bottom of the last inning in a little league contest in which our team was leading 5 to 2...

Up to this, our team had played perhaps its best game of the season so far...excellent fielding, good pitching by 2 players, Jared throwing out their fastest athlete attempting to steal second, a bases clearing hit over the centerfielder's head (BTW, by our only female player)...  

All this excitement and bally hoo, but we couldn't come away with the victory...  

That bottom of the last inning caused at least 2 Gasparis to have a lousy night sleeping...It was a comedy of errors...gut wrenching...Jared kept throwing strikes, succeeded in getting 2 outs while still maintaining the lead, but we resorted as a team to our casual and careless style of play...a routine grounder to third with no throw to first, a player not pursuing an easy foul pop-up to third, a couple of questionable ball & strike calls by the ump (my favorite ump, BTW)...  

As they say...baseball is a game of inches...

In my mind I replayed several of our errant plays with much more successful outcomes of what could have been...BUT...

This was only in my imagination...at the end of the day I watched as my son poured out tears effusively, gathered in left field after the loss with the rest of his team...and when I looked back at the scoreboard we had still lost 6 to 5...!!!  

Isn't it a bitchironic how some of our memories are not fond ones...???

Growing pains aren't always physical...usually calm, levelheaded, and lighthearted, this was Jared's first game when he did not treat himself at the snackbar...
