What's Your Favorite Color...???

Has anyone ever asked you or have you ever asked anyone, 'What is your favorite color'...???

Thinking back, my favorite color has changed over the years...I wonder if that's a good thing...and after some reflection, I have concluded that, yes, changing your favorite color over the years IS a good thing...

Then what about other favorites...flower, tree, ice cream flavor, cereal, number, electronics brand, political affiliation, merchant, style of home, food, snack, raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens, etc...and the list could probably go on ad infinitum...

What point am I trying to make...?

'And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good...'   Genesis 1:31 RSV

Interestingly enough, the first 5 days of creation produced everything around us...except living things, including man himself...who were created on the 6th day...

Let's avoid getting into concern about creationism, evolution, or any other theological concerns...let's leave that to the Theologians and Bible Scholars...

Rather, let's contemplate what God may have intended by spending so much time on our surroundings before He placed man into the landscape...! After all, God said that we were made in His own image and placed us into dominion over all the rest of creation, just as all of creation was subject to Him...!

Getting back to the premise of the title of this post! If we were to say, for example, that 'BLUE' is our favorite color...aren't we, in effect, saying that all other colors are inferior in a sense to 'BLUE'...

Or by saying that 'OAK' is our favorite tree, aren't we then, in effect, saying all other trees are inferior to 'OAK'...

We can be setting ourselves up to fall into an incorrect way of looking at things...more importantly, we can be limiting our enjoyment of the diverse things that God made for us to enjoy by overly emphasizing or myopically focusing on just our 'FAVORITES'...

Let's not get overly scrupulous about this idea, but let this idea open us up to experience new things, new colors, new trees, new flavors...isn't that what America was built upon...New World...new ideas...new society...new chances...new inventions...new developments...broad horizons...endless opportunity...

Let's resist the temptation to compartmentalize everything and tuck things into neat boxes...rather, let us use everything in conformity with God's will and the common sense of conservationism, good stewardship, moderation, and good taste...!!!

'...I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.'   John 10:10   RSV

Let's start living life abundantly...to the fullest...and enjoy some of those favorite things...but not overlooking the seemingly small insignificant things around us...!!!
