After a week of troubleshooting my internet access problems and listening to the debates in Washington about raising our nation's debt ceiling...I've concluded that there are no easy answers...
In fact...there are no dumb questions...BUT...there ARE a lot of dumb answers...!!!
We, like many other families, try to live within a reasonable budget...of course, rising prices, taxes, fuel, and health care costs seriously impact our ability to maintain our budget limits...
Not to mention, unbudgeted needs and surprise bills...
We recently had to replace our home's 22 year old roof at a cost of $9000.00...BTW, the lowest by at least $5000.00 of three estimates...
Several unexpected healthcare copays averaging around $1700.00...
Repairs to a leaking shower floor in our master bed room of $400.00...
Broken water supply lines in our basement of $300.00...
All these expenses arose within a month while my personal income declined during the summer months and my wife, a caregiver to a young lady with muscular dystrophy, hasn't received a paycheck for a couple of months...
AND SO...Our dilemma is not unlike that faced by our national government.....only missing many many zeros to the left of the decimal point...
THE DIFFERENCE...???
We can't ‘deficit spend'...our government does...
By God's Grace, we had a modest amount of savings to fall back on...our government apparently doesn't, but it has tremendous natural resources yet refuses to use them...
Our government apparently sees a need to borrow more money to solve its problems...while we struggle like heck to reduce our debts and sacrifice to reduce our needs and pleasures...!!!
So...you see...my family and the government are in the same boat...it's only the sizes of the boats that are different...!!!
Sorry for the lateness of this post, but have a nice weekend...!!!
