This post was prompted by a post written by my good friend Missy Caulk from Michigan...She is a
Wolverine fan, but I don't hold it against her...she is still a real estate professional I deeply respect and admire...!!!

Her post basically dealt with the danger of leaving ourselves open to law suits when addressing other individuals or companies in our blogs...
I commented on that very same post of Missy's that it is good advice to NEVER attack a person or company even if they deserve it and our accusations are true...It's OK to focus on and disagree strongly with an opinion or position held by another, but it is rarely prudent to attack that person or their character...yes, even if they are rascals...
Here is where I derive my opinion...
Before we commit ourselves to obey the civil law...after all our republic is founded on the rule of law...we are bound to observe the natural law which has a moral implication carried with it...
Let me try to be clearer...
If I claim to be Christian and uphold the ten Commandments and the Golden Rule, my obligation to God supersedes my ethical or legal obligations...
For example, while slavery was 'legal' in our country, most Christians saw that it was contrary to the 'law of God' to engage in having slaves or condoning the practice of slavery, and so they were morally forbidden to agree with slavery...
More recent, when segregation was 'legal' most Christians knew instinctively that 'all men are created equal', thus all should have equal rights to education...
Most recently, and in fact, currently, our country 'legalizes' abortion on demand...Most Christians again, condemn this practice as taking a life, rather than protecting life...and so they subscribe to the much higher moral ground where God creates all life, and therefore His followers are bound to protect life...at all stages...from conception until natural death...
And so, I raise the question here, not of laws, but of morals...Is it right, especially for us who claim to be Christian, to practice either CALUMNY or DETRACTION...both of which are offenses against God's law...
Calumny:
A misrepresentation intended to harm another's reputation; the act of uttering false charges or misrepresentations maliciously calculated to harm another's reputation.
Detraction:
The unjust damaging of another's good name by the revelation of some fault or crime of which that other is really guilty or at any rate is seriously believed to be guilty by the defamer.
The calumniator says what he knows to be false, while the detractor narrates what he at least honestly thinks is true.
In both cases we violate the 'moral law'...and so, both Calumny and Detraction are to be avoided...
Christians are not perfect nor should they display a holier than thou attitude, but they are charged by their God to be proclaimers of TRUTH and The Good News...
