Today March 6th 2009, the report came out with the worst unemployment rate our country has ever seen in 25 years. The unemployment rate rose to 8.1% in February. The statistical evidence is real. Fear is driving this country. I will probably get more phone calls these next several days from Buyer clients who may plan to put their Purchase plans on hold. This morning, I attended a workshop, Secrets to an Astounding Success! How timely.
Yes, it is indeed a motivational workshop but what I got out of it are these thoughts:
- My thoughts drive my feelings, my feelings drive my actions and my actions drive my results.
- Which "state" I am in is only in my mind.
At the beginning of the workshop, we were asked to write down our financial goals for 2009. Then, we were asked to cross out that number, then DOUBLE it.
Some of the real fears as to why we beat ourselves down, after we set our goals are:
- We don't know HOW to get there?
- We don't want to work that hard.
- We've never been there before, so how do we know if we can DO it?
She shared with us that often times, we don't know WHAT we want. That's seems to be the major underlying the problem. Then, some people know What they want, but don't know HOW to achieve it. Here is her answer to it,
"It's your job to know What you want and it's God's job to know How".
Are you going to let circumstances control your destiny, or are you going to let your actions to determine what you can achieve? I think I like the latter much better. Years ago, I quit letting someone decide how much I'm worth. Along with throwing that mentality aside, I quit my corporate job and started a full-time real estate business. The ironic thing was that my 1st year of full-time real estate, my income was equivalent to that of my corporate job plus a handsome bonus after 8 years. Now, I wondered why I waited that long. Yes, I let FEAR hold be back from becoming WHOM I want to be.
This seems to be a rah-hah-hah, get yourself pumped up blog post - if you let it be. But what you do after you are done reading really depends on you. You might say, "Loreena, I know what I want. But how can I achieve it?" I believe that you already know that. It's your fear that's holding you back from the activities you know you ought to be doing. I say this out loud to myself too.
This was not a religious or spiritual workshop. But I heard God clearly knocking at my heart. He said, "Loreena, I can open doors no one can shut". He will say that to you too. So, will you take the leap of Faith with me and make 2009 your best year yet? I know I will.
For those of you readers who are not self-employed, who feel that you are at the mercy of your employer for another week of work next week, I have this to share with you. Do your own due diligence. Know where your strengths are. Build yourself a career (self-employed or not) based on your passion and your skillsets. If you BELIEVE that your ability will continue to provide for your family, that's what you will get also. Work is abundance everywhere. Only 8 person out of 100 is unemployed. 92 are still WORKING! Don't tune into the negativity. Plan a Plan B should you have to execute it. But beyond that, don't live your life in fear. It's not the best way of living.
