Christian Real Estate Professionals

What End in Sight?

There are so many people - for the best of them wish blessings upon people who do good for people. I understand and I know most of the time, people do believe that good things should happen to people who do good. But as Christians, we know far too well that when we took on the cross, God never promised us a bed of roses. In fact, He did tell us that we will face calamity.

Here's a thought-provoking idea. When someone do good for others (be it going out of the way to complete a very challenging real estate transaction, or helping a blind cross the street), dont think about the "blessings" that he/ she would receive at the end of the "help" or the end of his/ her life. Stop thinking about the "blessings" in heaven that we would receive at the end. But instead, think that it's just simply the right thing to do.

There's one scripture that comes to mind when I think about the "good" or "right" thing that I do - for someone. I could hear God say this in His whispering voice, "Well done, my good and faithful servant" of Matthew 25:23.

I think doing "good" or the "right" thing for people know no boundaries. It's just the thing to do. In the end, whether there are sweet blessings at the end or not, just keeping doing the good to hear God say, "Well done my good and faithful servant." That's something I secretly wish that would be inscribed on my tombstone. That's something I work towards every day of my life - business or not, real estate or not.

Masking Yourself Everyday

I really didn't realize how many people go about their perfect everyday life until you really start knowing people in a deeper connection. Like so many people in this country, residents of FriscoTexas look good and promising. We all have good employment, good cars, good houses and almost perfect homes. On the surface, we ALL make good income. Our average Frisco Texas household income is about $96,000 - much higher than the national average household income of $44,000 for America. We own so many things only some could dream of.

But if you look deeper, each person/ family hides behind their perfect mask. So much so that they eventually believe the mask that they wear.

Today, I want to say, no matter what mask you wear - either to fool someone else, or it has a real reason for cover-up, you cannot make believe that the mask is real. The most important thing is that you cannot mask "you" to fool yourself. There are times we don't want to be totally transparent. I understand that. But at the end of the day, you need to remove your mask, go to the Father and leave it at the cross. He will take care of you.

Philippians 4:8 "Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise".

Do You Have a Sense of Urgency To Accomplish All You Need To Do In A Day?

This post is inspired by Sunday's Weekend Edition of the Today Show, presented by news correspondent, Peter Alexander of his very own younger sister, Rebecca about her fight with Usher Sundrome Type III Disease.

You might want to watch this video to see how despite her challenges, how she doesn't let her disease define what she can and cannot do.

.msnbcLinks {font-size:11px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #999; margin-top: 5px; background: transparent; text-align: center; width: 425px;} .msnbcLinks a {text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px;} .msnbcLinks a:link, .msnbcLinks a:visited {color: #5799db !important;} .msnbcLinks a:hover, .msnbcLinks a:active {color:#CC0000 !important;}

Rebecca Alexander was diagnosed with this disease since in Elementary school and her doctors said that she would probably wouldn't lived past 30 years old. This year, Rebecca is 30 and Becky said she's living on "borrowed" time.  This gives her a sense of urgency to accomplish things she wants in life.

So, this morning I started my regular Sunday morning prayer, it had given me the opportunity to think and reflect on my life and see if I have truly lived the life that God has given me.

Everyday is a gift from God

I hope that you and I will live each day to the fullest and to the best of our abilities, not only when a doctor tells us how much time when we have left. Don't go down at night until you have accomplish everything you want to do that day. Don't go down at night until you know that you have helped every client you need to ought to, return every phone call and email that you need to and more importantly, serve your family to the best of your ability. Because tomorrow never comes. Don't ever quit until you know that God will put a smile in His face for He knows you have done your best that day.

This is what I wake up to every morning, a plague that says "Every day is a Gift from God". I hope that's how you would treat each and every day of your life.

Scripture of the Week:

1 Corinthians 6:19-20: "You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God."

Extending my very best for you this week.

Love,
Loreena

Making Sense of Troubled Times

Just a quick post for my God First post this week. I have been fighting allergies and congestion so it has not been easy.

This post is inspired by Ben Bernanke's CBS 60 minutes interview that I watched earlier this evening. Below are scriptures that I go to ALOT when I don't understand why things happen the way they do. I'm referring to the troubling economy and knowing that there are many homeowners that would not be able to sleep peacefully tonight for fear of losing their homes.

So, what other perfect way to share with you when your Hope is NOT placed in men but only to one God:

Be STILL and know that I am God. (Psalms 46:10)

Trust in the Lord. Do not lean on your own understanding. In all ways, acknowledge the Lord. He WILL direct your path. (Proverbs 3:5)

When troubles come your way, consider it as an opportunity to grow. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So, let it grow for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete and needs nothing. (James 1:2-4)

Why do you worry about everyday life? Whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear? Look at the birds. They dont plant or havest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them Aren't you far more valuable to him than they are? If God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers, the birds and the bees, what more would He do for you? Dont worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today (Matthew 6:25 - 34)

God's Serenity Prayer:
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

--Reinhold Niebuhr

Poem by Jane Enggleston (It's in the Valleys That I Grow)

Sometimes life seems hard to bear,
Full of sorrow, trouble and woe
It's then I have to remember
That it's in the valleys I grow.

If I always stayed on the mountain top
And never experienced pain,
I would never appreciate God's love
And would be living in vain.

I have so much to learn
And my growth is very slow,
Sometimes I need the mountain tops,
But it's in the valleys I grow.

I do not always understand
Why things happen as they do,
But I am very sure of one thing.
My Lord will see me through.

My little valleys are nothing
When I picture Christ on the cross
He went through the valley of death;
His victory was Satan's loss.

Forgive me Lord, for complaining
When I'm feeling so very low.
Just give me a gentle reminder
That it's in the valleys I grow.

Continue to strengthen me, Lord
And use my life each day
To share your love with others
And help them find their way.

Thank you for valleys, Lord
For this one thing I know
The mountain tops are glorious
But it's in the valleys I grow!

I Can Open Doors No One Can Shut

With the constant bombardment of the news media these days, you would really think the end of the world is coming soon. I wrote 2 timely posts this week to combat the negativity and offered some suggestions on how to deal with these circumstances:

God says to you, "I can open doors no one can shut"God clearly spoke to me this week, knocked on my heart and said, "I Can Open Doors No One Can Shut". I guess when you have the favor of the Most High, there is no direction to head except FORWARD.

Can you feel my SYNERGY NOW? I am vibrating it to you across the world wide web. You can call me the most positive enthusiast. I WILL not beg down to negativity.

Where you are at - is your state of mind. Decide where would you be?

I get asked this question ALOT: How's the real estate business?

Here's my answer (and it's no lie and I can't tell you why either):

The real estate business is doing very WELL. The real estate market here in Frisco Texas, not so well. It seems that these two things don't jive. But it works out for me. Frisco sells about 2,400 homes a year and I don't need ALL 2,400 transactions in order to survive. Actually, I only need a tiny fraction. That's why it always works out. I guess I attract positive energy. Every time I write a contract or close on a transaction, a new client will call me within a few days. I dont know how it ALWAYS happens, but it always does... I only have the favor of ONE man. So now, I don't worry about whether my "pipeline" is full or not. God also never gives me more clients than I have time to work with. It always balances out.

Please don't ever misunderstand me. I have no intention to brag. If you think I want to brag, just think about this awesome God I enthusiastically brag about. I share with you the success I have because God has called me to be a light of the world - a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. He didn't light me only to keep me hidden. I know that I am placed on a stand to shine. My love for people is only the reflection of God's love for me. It's outpouring. Coincidentally, it's always the core foundation of my business, 3:16 team REALTY*.

So, take this for all its worth.

I can let my history decide my future. I can let the economy decide my future. Or I can let Obama decide my future. But you know what? God knocks and I move.

Make it a great week for the Lord - for others to see so that everyone will praise our Heavenly Father.

*In case you wondered what does 3:16 in my business name mean: Many associate it with John 3:16, but mine is 1 John 3:16 - For now we know what Christ's love is about, it's time to do the same for everyone I come in contact with.

My prayer for this post, "God, please make me as tiny as possible in this message. It's about You, not me."

The Art of Professional Salesmanship - Isn't Forgiveness a Part of The Professionalism Too?

A while back, I wrote Does Your Business Name Set a Minimum Standard? In this post, I explained how my business name came about. For those of you who know the John 3:16 bible scripture would immediately connect with the business name, but 3:16 team REALTY is really built on 1 John 3:16 which I'm paraphrasing in my own context, Now I know what Love is because of what Christ did for me. It's my turn to give a life for those I serve.

I would be first to promise you that this is not a biblical post written on Active Rain. I have always shared how Christianity and Real Estate could work together. I am want us to be real - that there are real estate professionals that decided to take the cross right into their business. It's not one or the other. We are all one. What we are, what we believe in and how we conduct ourselves do affect how we would carry ourselves into our business.

What I never do is to start a discussion about my Christianity with my clients and other real estate professionals. I never tell them what I do on Sunday mornings - though it may be obvious. But because of my business name, it clearly put me in that spot. Sometimes even without asking, people know what I am.

Loreena Yeo - Frisco Realtor of 3:16 team REALTY

This week, I've been challenged to negotiate in a way I've was never exposed to. When it had gone to a point where my fees were a matter of closing on a transaction or not. I've been asked to reduce my fees in an unconventional way.

"Loreena, it is clear that you are a Christian. Let me ask you this, Do you serve the SAME God as I do? My mission in my business is to facilitate buyers and sellers in real estate transactions. I'm not telling you how you should run  your business."

Wow. I said nothing. The discussion about reducing my fees prior to this conversation went on over a week and my original answer was No. I have prayed about this decision and I do not felt nudged to do it.

This week, I said, Okay. I prayed about a number yet, the amount are not sufficient to close on the transaction. Although I dont feel nudged to do it, I did it because the other agent clearly needs to get paid, the lender needs to get paid, the title company and the home warranty needs to get paid. And most of all, my client needs to be able to purchase that home after patiently waiting for over 3 months. The sellers need to get out from under financial turmoil also. I realized all these but I just didn't like the spotlight placed on me. The fact of whether or not this transaction goes well were laid as my responsibility. I felt it was an unfair position that the other agent had placed me in. And especially when it was brought on me in this manner.

It was clear manipulation to grab me at my strength and to turn it into a negotiation tool. But I realize why he did what he had to do. Quiet honestly, it must have been very difficult for him to utter those words out of desperation. After thinking about it for a couple of days, I decided to forgive him.

Naturally, the Scripture of the Week is:

If you forgive those who sinned against you, your Father in Heavin will forgive you also. Matthew 6:14

Clearly, I'm not perfect. I probably had offended many others in real estate transactions. So, I'm not any more special or different. I'm letting this go. Forgiveness is what I will be working on this week. Please pray for healing to begin.

So, there you have it. Christians are not exempt from any real estate transactions. We still face manipulations and say things we shouldn't. Don't let this God First post stop you from sharing what's on your heart to comment - whether you are a Christian or not. As you have read, it's not beating the Bible over your head. Clearly Christians or not, we face challenges everyday in our transactions.

The Art of Professional Salesmanship - Isn't Forgiveness a Part of It Too?

Greater Things Are Still To Be Done In This City

If you believe that this life is not about YOU, but those around you. Read on.

    If you believe that none are yours, but only entrusted to you temporarily to steward. Read on.

I have a vision that someday there will a church truly known as a community center for its city. A church with open doors as a symbol of open hearts to the city it serves.

This church will have conference and study rooms, a cafe with wi-fi connection, a place that the public can utilize as part of their everyday lives. A basketball court and skating ramps for teenage hangout after school and summers. To take it one step further, an hourly drop off day care service staffed with godly, children-loving care-takers. A place you know you can count on in an event of an emergency, that these people would do everything in their power to save your child just as you would.

As Christians, we are called to connect, called to plant a seed, called to be the city on a hill, called to be salt in this flavorless world. I truly believe that if money was unlimited, that someday a church with open doors would sit in a city such as Frisco Texas. A place where the public can use as their community center.

Let's face it. We - the Christians are not perfect and perhaps rubbed many people the wrong way. Even saying the right thing at the wrong time can sound offensive. By having a community center such as this to shower the community with a sincere desire to plant a seed.

Until then (when you and I have the financial resources to build this community center), be the community center to everyone you come in contact with through your heart and your deeds. Your conservations need not be difficult. Just ask questions to get to know them better and watch as their stories unfold. Be generous with your life through the people you serve everyday.

Scripture for the Day:

Matthew 5:14-16 "Here's another way to put it: You're here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We're going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don't think I'm going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I'm putting you on a light stand. Now that I've put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven."

Plant a Seed because People Matter to You

This is a pretty controversial post that I'd be presenting this week. Probably one that may get you scared away from commenting. It's heavy on my heart today so I want to bring it out there: Christianity and Real Estate. Is it like water and oil? Separated one from another? Do you keep your "Christianity" hidden in the closet when you meet with your real estate clients, or head off to work, but you wear your Armor of God when you do everything else?

I planted, Apollos watered but God made it grow Please understand my heart and it is not to get anyone worked up about this topic. Do what you will with what I have to say. Give it all its worth.

First of all, I do not want to single out Christians as a group of perfectionists. They are not. They are just like you and me, men that walk this earth with ups and downs in life. Christians are not special people who do not make mistakes. Therefore, we know Christians can fail just like you and me. Hence, a group of Christian realtors are not any more special than those who have other faiths and beliefs, or even no spiritual beliefs at all for that matter.

Christian realtors(R) are bound by the Code of Ethics - just like any other Realtor(R). I wear a hat as a Realtor and I am a Christ-follower.

All that being said, I have no hidden agenda when I work. Everything I have and *know are on the table for my clients, the other Realtor(R) and real estate professionals in the transaction to see and experience. God has called us Christian realtors(R) to grow in faith and as we grow in faith, we grow in our love for each other.

There is no wrong or shame when we quietly utter our breadth prayers before, during and after our meeting with these people in the transaction. Read also my previous post about the Power of a Praying Realtor(R).

Pray to be "available" for the Lord to use you in whatever way He so choose. Pray for an opportunity to plant a seed and share your love with this person. Be all you can to your encounters. After that, back off! That's all you are called to do.

God said in 1 Corinthians 3:6, "I plant the seed, Apollos watered but God made it grow". It is not our duty to do more than we are asked. In God's perfect timing, everything will fall in its place. Bloom where you are planted, sow where you need to. God WILL do the rest.

Make it a great week for the Lord!

No One Can Serve Two Masters

Join me for my weekly bible study to start off this week with some quiet time to ponder and reflect about what is important. This week, the focus is about No One Can Serve Two Masters. As I study this, I pray it over my life, my thoughts and my business.

Several related scriptures in this study this week:

Matthew 6:24

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

This week's study was something that came to mind when I heard about a family at my church who was recently separated. I know that they are just one of many families like them in America today. This family of 5 - a father, mother and 3 daughters are going through some challenging times. It began with this tough economy we are in. The Dad lost his job and the mother is a stay-at-home mom. The Dad had an executive position at his workplace and he was laid off several months ago. Long story short, they are talking about a divorce - mainly because of financial hardship. But this financial hardship became unbearable. Husband and wife always ends up quarreling. Dad sought a shoulder to cry on outside of his home. I truly believe that it was never his intentions to find someone - especially from the opposite sex to be the moral/ friend support. But it seems that there is a 3rd person in the marriage now.

This devastation, like many of them are facing in America right now. It is probably easy for me to say, No one can serve two masters. But I do know that when you are in trouble, you are always more susceptible to the devil's attacks. It will hit you where it hurts. Marriage and family are core priorities in God's world so when we put this scripture in perspective, I hope that more couples/ families who continue to face economic hardship, that they must know what the devil is capable of but we must yield higher and stronger than that.

My God will say, "Who would dare be against me, for I am with you".

No one can serve two masters. Either this or that. Here or there.

I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that Christ Jesus saved me for and wants me to be.

The Power of a Praying Realtor(R)

In reference to Phillipians 4:6, God has commanded us, Christian realtors® to pray about everything. Also, in Proverbs 3:4-6, "You will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and he will direct your path".

What I have done in the past is to pray (and pray alot) for my past and current clients and those I have not yet served. I pray before our meetings and I make "breath prayers" throughout my time with them. (Breath prayers are what I call prayers that I utter in my heart and it is done continuously for them). To get in the "right" mindset, I also listen to Worship music in my car.

I do sincerely hope that your heart is to serve your clients in the full capacity that you are called. More importantly, that God's will be done in the transaction. To meet your clients' needs before your very own. It is very challenging at times because we are only humans.

I typically never ask clients to jump and sign at the dotted line. Very often, advising them to think it through, ponder and reflect. At the same time, if I believe that it is a "good" transaction, I would advise them of that but never with an altruistic intention. I believe what is theirs are theirs and what is mine is mine (my rewards and my paychecks). I have worked on some past transactions where either the clients or I have "tried" to speed things up, in the end, it still fell apart.

Ask for peace and guidance in the transaction. Seek God's will for your life while serving His people. Help complete your mission for them by praying at every step of the transaction. May the work that you do pleases Him and may the way you conduct your business, the things that you say or don't say be an awesome testimonial of what a true Christian should be. Pray for strength to continue your acts of service for His people all the days of your life.

May God's peace be with you.

Disclosure: This blog is written with no altruistic intentions of converting you into Christianity and we as Christian, are called to serve everyone with all or no religious backgrounds. There is no hidden agendas but to send a message with a pure heart.
