In football, the abbreviation PAT stands for points after a touchdown...in the NFL, you get one point for a successful kick, and two points if you pass or run the ball into the end zone after a touchdown...
Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to receive one of those beloved Active Rain 'features' for my post...
For me, features mean much more than points...it means that your post has been deemed worthy, at least in the opinion of the AR gurus who monitor such things, to merit extra time on the Active Rain 'dashboard' (the dashboard is where people logging in get more time to decide whether or not they want to click onto your post and actually read further)...This gives you the opportunity for greater exposure and increased comments which translate into more points and more 'google juice'...
Of course, I'm simply stating everything, as I'm far from being an IT guy...I barely know how to navigate these waters myself, and I still type with one finger...let alone skate quickly through all this...
My point, however, is what happens the day after a 'featured post'...a touchdown ala Active Rain...???
In my short two years of blogging here, it is very rare to get back to back features...perhaps because of the time and research that went into the feature...perhaps it is because of the extra time required to answer comments on the featured post, or perhaps it is the anticlimactic nature of the next post...
I'm trying to overcome that here by posting a second 'novice friendly' post to especially help beginners or newcomers to Active Rain...!
If you feel encouraged to blog...good...!!!
If you feel nervous about getting started...that is good also...!!!
Nervousness and apprehension are good traits to channel into successful posts...if you were not a little nervous, your posts may seem as exciting as a damp towel or watching paint dry...!!!
The best advice you will get on Active Rain in this regard is to JUST START...
No one will rate your posts or give them a mark as in school...you're posting among friends, not critics...
I'm proud that I can show you posts that bombed...that I'm not even fond of...maybe that I wished I hadn't even written...but even those posts make me a better blogger...
Bottom line...START...REFINE...IMPROVE...REFINE...IMPROVE SOME MORE...REFINE...MASTER...!!!
KEEP REFINING...!!!
