Please Pray for My Friend (and Fellow ActiveRainer) Liz Carter

I spoke awhile last night with my good friend Liz Carter from Katy, Texas (near Houston).  Liz has struggled with a number of health issues this past year, including hepatitis C (currently in remission, although I'm not sure if that's the exact term), a ruptured appendix, and intestinal surgery.

Currently, Liz is in the hospital recovering from pneumonia.  Her doctor told her that she could possibly go home on Friday if all goes well.  Until recently, she was recovering from two separate surgical incisions simultaneously!

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Liz pretty well during my time here on AR, and we have met in person twice, once at an AR gathering in Bandera, and then again at my birthday party last August right here in Austin (the picture shows me with Ricki Eichler and Liz during that event).  On both occasions, I was impressed with Liz's outgoing and fun personality, and we started something of a mutual admiration society.  For many years, Liz has been a top-producing agent in her market, and she is an assertive salesperson and a respected team leader.

I told Liz that I would be writing this post, and I made sure that it was okay with her that I share this story.  Her quote was, "I'm an open book."  For those of you who know me, you know how this would resonate with me.

We spoke for awhile about the challenges ahead for Liz, and she has a terrific attitude, which is probably more than half the battle.  I know that she will face her recovery with the same determination and positive spirit that she has shown in her business over the years.

Please pray for my friend.  If you feel led to do so, feel free to re-blog this post and help spread the word, too!  I would also encourage you to stop by Liz's latest post and leave a supportive comment: Active Rain Members are true friends

One of the most amazing things that I have seen here on AR is the ability to positively affect lives for the good just by writing a few words.  Thanks for your prayers and support for Liz.  God bless you all.

PERSPECTIVE...Is That What It's All About...???

We hear so much these days about PERSPECTIVE...is the glass half full or half empty...???

But it's not just a question of terms, or mind control, or mind over matter, or positive attitude...sometimes it's those very same things that get us into trouble...

We latch onto an ideal or a mindset, and we're hooked...

Our thinking becomes preprogrammed as we brainwash ourselves into an attitude where we're afraid to absorb new ideas, new theories, new scientific evidence, etc...In essence we're more motivated by fear than we are by transparency or truth...we become afraid that this new idea may take away our optimism or positive attitude...

Which brings up a good point!

Where do we get our positive attitudes, our optimism...is it just mind control or is it based on truth or scientific evidence...

We can adopt a positive attitude and a sense of optimism that is very close to realism, but we have to let go of our false perceptions, our fear of facing reality, because we think reality is evil, depressing, or negative...All those perceptions are far from the truth...

Let me layout for you a case in point...I am very interested in new technologies...especially those which exude conservation, energy or time saving, money saving, or resource saving...I happen to have a geothermal heat pump that heats and air conditions my home...at great efficiency and cost savings...In my mind, I have ruled out 'solar power' as we know it, basically because my mind tells me that the 'sun doesn't shine every day'...I know some proponents of 'solar power' who believe that is the ONLY answer to solving our reliance on foreign oil, and accordingly they see no future for geothermal technologies...

Guess what...???

Both our mindsets are incorrect and misguided...mine because I have closed my mind to 'solar power'...and others because they do not understand 'geothermal' and think it will undermine their enthusiasm for 'solar power' and divert peoples attention away from where they see hope...!

THE FACTS...Both technologies rely on the power and reliability and heat of THE SUN...both are based on and in 'solar power'...in one case, the sun heats 'solar panels' producing electricity...in the case of geothermal, the power is derived from the earth's heat because of the sun's influence on it...

The moral of the story...Don't be too quick to jump on any bandwagon without doing your due diligence and searching for the REAL truth...and don't be too quick in rejecting theories and ideas just because they differ from your current mindset...!!!

Be open, be honest, be diligent, be a good listener...then accept what is GOOD...and reject what is BAD...!!!

And in no case...be afraid...!!!

God Does Not Give Us a Spirit of Fear!!!!

From the Desk of Don Draughn, Mortgage Professional

Website:  http://www.dondraughn.com/

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." II Timothy 1:7

This verse has become extremely real to me over the past few weeks.  If I were to describe the roller coaster that my wife and I have been on since a couple of weeks before Christmas you would be amazed and probably a little dizzy!  Let's just say life has been filled with ups and downs the last few weeks.  What I have gotten from it all is a renewed appreciation for the peace that God can give if I just let Him.

I have learned that if I will allow Him to work in my life and in my business dealings, God will give me "power to become the (child) of God" (John 1:12).  I don't have to fear that I will do something that will cause me or my family pain or misfortune if I put everything in His hands and do things the way He leads and guides me to do them.  He will provide if I simply believe and trust Him to do what He says He will do.

I have learned that if I will "Love God with all my heart, my soul and my mind" I will have all the love I will ever need - from my family and from my God.  God is Love.  His love is bestowed on me, not because I deserve it but because He wants to give it to me.  I don't have to fear that I will do something that will cause that love to go away.  He will love me no matter what.  My desire should be to do what He asks because He loves me.

I have also learned that if I will "trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not unto my own understanding" and in all my "ways acknowledge Him, He will direct my paths".  He will keep me in "perfect peace" when I keep my mind "stayed on" Him and trust Him.  I don't have to fear anything in life because my life is in God's hands.  He only wants what is best for me.

I encourage you to trust God and you pursue your craft in Real Estate and as you attempt to "grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ".  When you trust Him, He will prove Himself true to you.
